Area Law Enforcement
Approximately fifty automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Cars, walls and mailboxes were marked, in some cases with swastikas, they announced in a release.
Police say they were contacted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a resident observed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued substance.
The substance had been placed in the form of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Law enforcement then found numerous other smeared vehicles and residential walls in the surrounding area.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Police state initial examinations show the liquid was most likely human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no indication as to its source; investigators are not yet cognizant of any injuries in association with the occurrence," they added.
Local authorities announced they were trying "to resolve the mystery" and have asked to the residents for details.
A high-ranking political figure said the attack made him speechless and needed to be solved promptly.
"This incident strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the extremist terrorist attack in 2020," he posted on a platform, recalling the killing of nine victims by a shooter targeting residents of immigrant origin in 2020.
