Exactly 30 anniversary after the first Toy Story film was released, launching Pixar as a major animation studio and introducing audiences to iconic characters like the cowboy doll (the actor) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a glimpse into the plot but keeping fans wondering how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Toys

In the teaser reveals the young girl — who inherited Andy's toys when he grew up — receiving a brand new toy, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She gets her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.

Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the toys appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it probably is.

Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

One thing the trailer avoids is what Woody is back with his companions in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), journeying with a carnival and helping giveaway items locate loving owners.

Surely, the filmmakers will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him show up in the familiar setting without warning is a little strange, though. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have come back with him. And where is the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?

Connections from the Last Installment

At the very least, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before setting off for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to Jessie (the voice actor), leaving her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser displays the insignia pinned to her outfit.

It is hoped she is remains the key figure among the toys.
